About LW.net

The name “lovinglyworn.net” came to me in a rather interesting way. Back in 2004(ish) I had purchased the domain daylightsaved.net (taken from lyrics from the Tears for Fears song, “Sketches of Pain”). I had tinkered with layouts and done some random blogging here and there, but never really became attached enough to the website to actually finish it or make it public. My motivation was completely depleted, despite multiple attempts by friends to get me interested in working on it again.

Then one day in 2007 I was in the middle of a huge eBay surfathon – one of my favorite hobbies (much to my husband’s chagrin). I was looking around at various designer purses that I new I couldn’t afford but wanted to fantasize over anyway. I stumbled upon a used Coach handbag that was in very good shape. The seller described it as “lovingly worn”. I realized that, looking back at my journaling over the years, I am much like that Coach bag. I’ve been carried around, thrown down, used, but I’m still in pretty good condition. I’m still worth taking another look at.

I didn’t buy the bag. Instead I bought the domain lovinglyworn.net.

I have been on the ‘Net for about nine years now, in various shapes and sizes. What began as a free website over at Tripod quickly developed into hogging megabytes at a whole host of freebie websites before I bought my first domain in 2000 – onlytime.org – which now houses my photolog. I have also journaled at onlytime.org, my-dharma.net, jenonymous.com, daylightsaved.net (which never went public), and now lovinglyworn.net. I have also been spotted in various LiveJournals.

LW.net (as well as onlytime.org) is currently powered by WordPress. It is registered by Dotster and proudly hosted by DreamHost.  I highly recommend all three websites to anyone looking to start their own site/blog/what have you. I have never been disappointed.

Those that have followed me since onlytime.org’s inception may remember my pattern of making elaborate collage-style layouts every other month. Unfortunately, I lack both the time and motivation to teach myself how to make my own WordPress themes from scratch. So, for the time being any layout seen here is based off of someone else’s free, usable CSS template. Typically the credit is at the bottom of the layout, put there by the original designer. I do just fine tinkering with font sizes and colors and adding header images, thankyouverymuch.

This particular layout’s CSS was based off of the “Her Jammies” theme by Teresa Jones. At the moment, her free themes are off of her main page, but she has a new design website, So Chic Design that features her work. I am pathetic when it comes to actually writing CSS from scratch, so I appreciate her easy to decipher and customize designs. I took the layout and pretty much re-did every image and changed all font colors.

Yes, I hand drew the fantabulous header image (hah), in Adobe Illustrator. It my very first attempt to actually draw something myself. I put it up because, to be honest, I’m darn proud of myself for not throwing my mouse across the room and breaking my monitor! It was quite a task and no, it’s not perfect, but I did it myself! The snowflakes are Photoshop brushes that came with the program (it’s a star of some sort, I think). By the time I was done with that darn “tree”, there was no way I was going to hand draw each and every snowflake!

So yeah. :)
